When Strangers Part

(John Hubbard)

With sorrow and fear
We say goodbye
No one knows the paths we take
Or questions why

Stranger you are, you bringer of sadness
A stranger whose path we all must cross
Leave us for now and return another day
When only one friend we have lost

Sorrow
When strangers part
Is all pretend

Forever is a long time
To have to wait
When knowledge of a friendship made
Arrives too late

Thoughts fill my mind, a voice cries within me
It taunts me with things that I can't say
What words will we use to fill up the silence
When each of us has gone a separate way

The sorrow
When strangers part
Is all pretend
A message
That no one has
The strength to send

Sorrow
When strangers part
Is all pretend
