In Every Line

(Kevin Gilbert)

When this pen touches paper
Words will all conspire
To light up every darkened place
To kindle some truth's fire
But papers torn and crumpled
Tell a different tale
Of simple thoughts and easy rhymes
With every word for sale
I rewrite and I revise
I edit and refine
I never can quite get the care to show in every line

Cause some truths have no spokesman
And therefore hard to find
But wiser men than me have made them speak in every line
Cause art's a noble hobby if one has got the time
Behold the noble artist, his craft in every line

I rewrite and I revise
I edit and refine
I never can quite get the care to show in every line

No one will ever hear this song
I do it just for me
Although I cannot make you look
I can maybe make you see

I rewrite and I revise
I edit and refine
I never can quite get the care to show in every line
